X FACTOR TRIO COMING TO CARLISLE RACECOURSE
Three of the most popular and successful singers from the latest X Factor series are to perform live at Carlisle Racecourse this summer.
Runner-up Olly will be joined by fellow finalists Jamie and Lucie for the open-air Carlisle X Factor concert at the Durdar track on Sunday 25th July 2010.
The trio will entertain thousands of fans following an afternoon's flat racing and family fun day.
The concert, promoted by the Stobart Group, will feature Olly Murs, the 25 year old Essex boy and runner-up in the X Factor final, Jamie Archer, better known as Jamie Afro after his famously big hair, and Lucie Jones, the 18 year old from South Wales whose rendition of I Will Always Love You was surely one of the best auditions of the series.
All three battled their way from anonymity to take their place among the final 12 in the 2009 series of the X Factor.
Tickets cover both the day's racing and the concert.
Horse racing in the historic border city of Carlisle dates back to at least the 16th Century and each year Carlisle Racecourse holds the Cumberland Plate and Carlisle Bell races, carrying on a tradition which dates back to that era.
Amongst it's innumerable 'claims to fame', Carlisle launched the first operational Tote on British racecourses in 1929 and notably Red Rum won at the Carlisle September meeting prior to each of his Grand National wins.
Progressive upgrading of the facilities has taken place over the years but none as significant as the construction of a brand new 'state-of-the-art' The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Grandstand which opened in October 2002. Race goers can now enjoy superb horse racing from their own private box or in the luxury of the Swifts Restaurant.
Located just off Junction 42 of the M6, Carlisle Racecourse offers superb facilities for both race day and non race day events with seven large hospitality rooms all over looking the stunning Cumbrian countryside, a superb exhibition hall, restaurant, multiple bar facilities and over 250 acres of parkland.

It’s the turn of the season and the scene is set for a unique mixture of flat and jump racing at this historic race day. The bet365 Gold Cup, previously know as the Whitbread Gold Cup, has attracted some legendary winners over the years – Desert Orchid, Arkle and Special Cargo, to name just a few. It is always among the most popular races in our calendar and is a must-see event.
Besides the racing, the day offers a rare opportunity to witness a parade of the jump season’s equine champions, which in 2009 included Kauto Star, Denman, Mon Mome, Big Bucks and Voy Por Ustedes. Industry champions are also honoured prior to racing with an awards ceremony for the Champion Jockey, Trainer and Owner, and the unique character of the meeting is further reflected by our Flat vs Jump jockeys race, which launches the afternoon’s card.
The day has become renowned for its after-party, which in recent years has featured Irish rock from The Saw Doctors. 2010 will be no different, with live music courtesy of The Saw Doctors after racing to bring the festivities to a rousing finale in the Parade Ring.

Aston, Marvin, JB and Oritse shot to fame during the 2008 X Factor when runners up in the competition. The boys swivelling hips, cute faces and falcetto voices tick all the boxes for their millions of teenage female fans who will no doubt enjoy the great value, intimate live concert at Epsom ahead of the band’s Arena Tour in December.

The band’s self titled debut album was released in November 2009, and has since gone triple Platinum, with sales of over 900,000 copies in the UK alone.

The evening will be completed with musical entertainment after racing - featuring world famous ABBA act Björn Again!
THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL AS RACECOURSE LINES UP ABBA ACT FOR LADIES NIGHT!
Mamma Mia! Carlisle Racecourse's hugely successful Ladies' Night is set to get even bigger and better next year when it will feature a 90-minute performance by the world-famous Abba act Bjorn Again.
Nearly 8,000 people, including scores of women dressed to impress, attended last summer's annual event at the Durdar track, which ended with a 45-minute live show by Take That! tribute band Fake That!
But next year's Ladies' Night on Monday 2 August 2010 will see the evening's racing rounded off with a full concert by Bjorn Again, who offer more of an extravagant satirical parody of the Swedish supergroup rather than being simply a copycat or tribute band.
Tickets from £15 for adults cover both the race meeting and the Bjorn Again concert. Admission is £10 for students and OAPs or free for accompanied under-16s.
Ladies Night 2009 attracted 7,737 spectators – 300 up on the previous year – making it the racecourse's biggest crowd of the year. The target now is to beat the 8,000 mark for the first time in the racecourse's history....
The racecourse has already announced that Jools Holland his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will be playing at next year's CFM Summer Family Festival evening race meeting on Saturday July 3. Tickets for this are now on sale too. Stars of TV's X-Factor show also will perform at the racecourse's family day meeting on Sunday July 25. Names are yet to be confirmed.

Keyboards king Jools Holland is to play a record-breaking open-air concert at Carlisle Racecourse!
The popular TV presenter, pianist and bandleader will perform live in front of the racecourse's biggest ever crowd of up to 10,000 spectators next summer.
Tickets are now available here for the gig by Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, which will be part of the CFM Summer Family Festival evening meeting on Saturday July 3.
The 90-minute set will get underway around 9.15pm once the evening's horse racing has finished. The entertainment will then be rounded off with a spectacular fireworks display set to music.
All three elements - horse racing, live music and fireworks – are included in the ticket price of just £15 or £20.
John Baker, the racecourse's managing director, said "We are really excited to have such a legendary and respected musician as Jools Holland as our headline act for the CFM Summer Family Festival. It's a fantastic all round value-for-money event.
"We are confident that our biggest ever crowd of 8,000 to see Tony Hadley perform here back in 2006 will be smashed. We received really positive feedback after Escala performed at this year's CFM Summer Family Festival, so we set our sights on topping that in 2010 - and I think we have.
"We are sure the people of Cumbria and beyond will turn out in record numbers for what should be a superb evening's entertainment. Tickets will make great Christmas presents and guarantee a place at what should be an evening to remember."
More than 7,000 people attended last July's CFM Summer Family Festival featuring Escala. The racecourse has been enjoying a rise in attendances this year, with crowds up nearly 20% despite the recession. Even yesterday's Countryside Day meeting drew 3,500 spectators despite atrocious weather which saw an inch-and-a-half of rain fall during the day.
Jools' orchestra will include Gilson Lavis from Squeeze on drums, special guest vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall as well as skaand reggae legend Rico Rodriguez on trombone.
The event is being supported by Stobart.
Jools is no stranger to Cumbria, having performed sell-out gigs at the Maryport Blues Festival and more recently at The Sands Centre in Carlisle in August this year.
The musical maestro sprang to fame in the 1970s aged 15 when he formed Squeeze with Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford. Their hits included Up The Junction and Cool For Cats. After co-presenting The Tube on TV with Paula Yates, Jools formed The Jools Holland Big Band in 1987 and this has gradually morphed into the current 20-piece band, with organist, drummer, three female vocals, guitar, bass guitar, two tenor saxophones, two alto saxophones, baritone saxophone, three trumpets, and four trombones. They play live in front of more than 500,000 people around the world annually.
Jools' career as a recording artist has also seen him collaborate with performers like Sting, Tom Jones, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Bono, Joe Strummer, KT Tunstall, Robert Plant, Smokey Robinson, Sugababes, Ringo Starr and Peter Gabriel.
Alison Moyet will also be performing.

It's a British sporting institution, running since 1839, when a horse called Lottery won the big race, and a man called Captain Becher parted company with his horse at a now famous brook...
It’s a race synonymous with a horse called Red Rum, the horse who captured the nation’s hearts, a horse who was trained on the beaches of Southport and went on to notch up three Grand National victories.
It’s three days full of stories and wonder and the most ethereal horses in the world.
It’s nothing but excitement and drama; and it’s the grandest day to share with others.
It’s time to plan for the biggest social event in the calendar, the 2010 John Smith’s Grand National; join us for the 163rd renewal of the world’s most famous race meeting at Aintree Racecourse from Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th April.
ENCLOSURES
Steeplechase Enclosure
Open on John Smith’s Grand National day only, this enclosure provides prime viewing of the first fences of the Grand National Course, unreserved seating and with a relaxed dress code, offers a unique outdoor Grand National experience. Although this area does not give access to the Parade Ring side of the racecourse, the Steeplechase Enclosure has an atmosphere all of its own. Racegoers can soak in the anticipation and excitement that is felt by the 40 jockeys as they canter down to the first fence in the big race itself. This area is inclusive of its own bars, catering, betting facilities, big screen viewing and live entertainment.
Tattersalls Enclosure
This popular enclosure is the largest and most atmospheric enclosure at Aintree throughout the three-day meeting, offering an abundance of facilities, with access to the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure, in addition to the colour and café style bars on the Red Rum lawn and around the Parade Ring. Ticket holders have access to the Irish Bar, live music in the Aintree Pavilion, tote betting, plus big screen viewing. The Aintree mound provides viewing of the closing stages of every race.
West Tip Seats
Offering the excitement of the Tattersalls Enclosure, these covered seats offer great views up the home straight and of the final few fences of the course. Enjoy the private bar for West Tip Seats holders and then explore the rest of the Tattersalls Enclosure at your leisure. These seats are always in great demand, so book early.
GRANDSTAND BADGES
Princess Royal Stand Roof
A partially covered standing area, with the Tommy Wallis Suite as its dedicated bar, this enclosure offers a unique vantage point over the racecourse, and an ideal spot for viewing the all important final closing moments of every race.
Princess Royal Stand Seats
Situated between the Chair and the Water Jump with a fantastic view of the winning post, these seats offer intimate viewing of the closing moments of every race. Most seats in this stand are covered, and offers the John Parrett Lounge as its private bar.
County Stand Roof
With a birds-eye view directly above the winning post, you can scrutinize who makes it first past the post before anyone else. This traditional uncovered area offers prime viewing, making this badge very popular with racegoers at Aintree.
Queen Mother Stand Roof
Just yards past the Grand National finish line, this traditional uncovered area offers premium viewing along with a dedicated bar. It boasts an ideal location on the racecourse itself, close to the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure and not too far from the vibrant Red Rum Garden.
Queen Mother Stand Seats
Watch the equine stars take their place at the Grand National start line and be in the thick of the action as the horses pass the winning post. These seats are covered, protecting raceday hats from the elements.
Earl of Derby & Lord Sefton Stand Terraces
Aintree’s newest grandstands offer terraces closer to the action than anywhere else on the racecourse. Located either side of the horse walk, witness the colourful preparations of horses and jockeys at the Grand National start line, and be one of the first to cheer a winner on its way back to the Winner’s Enclosure.
Earl of Derby and Lord Sefton Stand Seats
Our award-winning grandstands were open for the first time at the 2007 John Smith’s Grand National meeting and are now a firm favourite with Aintree racegoers. Designed to offer first-class viewing facilities for the 21st century spectator, both stands fit the brief perfectly.
Each grandstand provides two levels of covered seating, higher than any other seated area at Aintree, hence providing breathtaking views over the famous course. Both levels permit access to private saddle bars overlooking the horse-walk and Parade Ring, ensuring a vantage point like no other.
Set at a unique angle, overlooking the Grand National start and finish, you’re guaranteed you won’t want to leave your seat all day.
VIP EXPERIENCE
Looking for something extra special? The Winner’s Bar and The Platinum County Lounge are Aintree’s most exclusive style bars offering limited capacity for ultimate enjoyment and come with a grandstand badge [with some nice little extras too!]
